How do you think your year went in grade 6:
I had a pretty good grade 6 year and I feel as if I did quiet a lot. I the second month of school me Sarah and Mady helped to set up a lemonaid fundraiser and raised over a hundred dollars. In math I enjoyed patterns because I can memorize the pattern easily.
I also enjoy reading a lot so I almost would be reading after lunch.
During recess and lunch i played a lot of competitive running games, like man hunt.
what was something that was really memorable:
the most memorable thing i did this year was when me and sophie were making flower crowns for big and little kids. We'd first measure their heads then make a base circle and finally weave more vines and flowers through the base vine.
this is always one of my favourite things to do but I can only do it in spring and summer when vines grow on the fence.
Looking back on your reading comprehension what is one thing your really proud of:
During our reading circles I am very proud to say that my verbal reading skills have improved a lot. I am more fluent and understand the majority of the words in all books I read.
the amount of reading I do at home and at school improve my fluency of reading in my head and aloud, it also increases my knowledge of the world.
During our reading circles I am honest to say that I did read a little bit ahead like i'd read the chapter that we were reading in my head as the person who was verbaly reading read.
What was one thing that you struggled with in terms of reading that you should continue working on:
I should continue working on my fluency of the sentences, because i would like to be able to read as if i wrote it myself.
what is the writing piece that you are most proud of:
I am most proud of a writing piece that is written in my dog, seven's, point of view. Its based on a weekend at my dads house and it makes me proud because it's very creative and funny.
what is one thing you need to continue working on in writiting? how do you know you need to continue working on this:
I believe you need to continue working on my transition word in a paragraph, so that it is more fluent.
I struggle with transition words because sometimes I think I wrote the transition word down but I didn't so I get confused and mess up.
we have talked a lot abouy communication skills, what is one thing you do well in terms of communication and one thing you should keep working on:
I think in the class i am good at including people as well as sorting you problems.
I could improve in staying out of peoples conversations and peoples personal business.
Do you think you do a good job at asking for help? how do you know you are good asking for help or not:
I am not very good asking for help because sometimes i think i should just be able to do stuff.
This one time in math i didn't know how to do the lesson so instead of asking for help i didn't and got frusterated.
In math what was something you struggled with:
In math i struggled with ''magic squares'' the sqaures that every box had the same answer. Those were very confusing for me. I must note that they were optional so i did push my self a little.
One thing you were really proud of this year:
something i did really well in math this year was division.
This is so mainly because I am good at multiplying and the basic adding and subtracting methods.
I can also do short division, in fact its easier for me that long division.
We did a lot of self regulation units, how do we self regulate and premote social emotional learning with-in the class:
We can self regulate by listening to music, reading, writing, running, climbing a tree, playing outside, talking with a friend, and anything else you personally feel passionate about.
how much did you like project based learning? what are your strengths? what could you work on in the future:
I think project based learning (p.b.l) is a great way to learn, and enjoy pbl during a group project. But I don`t mind doing a write up about most things.
my strengths are verbal and creative projects, an enjoy working alone or in a small 2-4 person group.
I could always work on using my time more wisely.
you expeiranced different types of inovative learning with-in the class such as class blogs coding passion choice work ect.
how did this support your learning? what did you like about it:
With the choice of my time i felt as if i had a voice of what i felt important. i could work on some un-finished work, my passion project, or just read a book.
Every day you basically had a different seat each time, how did this benefit your learning:
This benefited my learning be having a different expierance with people each day. With the seating plan I get to have a wider range of people and their different behaviors and how we act when seated with each other.
My goals for the summer are to have fun and remember how to do math, which won`t be hard. I will problably keep a journal to keep up my literacy.
I might also enter a baking contest during my break.
my goals for grade 7 numeracy are to improve in fractions and keep my basic skills up, such as adding subtracting dividing and patterns.
my goals for grade 7 numeracy are to be able to read aloud very fluently. Also to write a story about something.
MY over all goals for grade 7 are to be as possitive as i can for the majority of the time, and put my full effort into my projects.
I want to learn as much as i can in grade 7 and read a lot through out the year.
This is what i learned about residential schools during our aboriginal unit:
i learned that aboriginal kids of bc were forced to go to residential schools. Those schools hit whipped and humiliated the kids when ever they did any thing of their culture in order to make them act differently (aka caucasin and not aboriginal).
In the schools the kids were basically tortured in a prison like building that whats them to be different, forcing them to change.
I also learned that they only got shut down recently.
This concludes my grade six reflection!
